Private Landowners & Property Developers

On occasions when private landowners or property developers seek to develop affordable housing within a small rural community the Trust can, if invited and subject to the discretion of the trustees, become involved to sufficient extent to enable the application of the Rural Housing Burden to maintain affordability in the long term.

Housing developers are generally required to provide a proportion of new homes as affordable housing to satisfy planning policy.

Any property developer considering a development of more than four houses in a rural area or small town is encouraged to make contact with the Trust at an early stage in the pre planning application process.

Generally the Trust will only become involved in small rural communities where it is possible to determine need for affordable homes that are suitable in terms of accommodation and construction.
