Definitions

The Trust defines affordable housing as:

“non-market housing provided for those whose needs are not met by the open market. It can include housing to own or rent at rates less than that of the open market.”

The Trust defines a small rural community as:

“a rural community with a population of 1000 or less.”

The Scottish Government and this Trust define a rural community as:

“a settlement with a population of less than 3000.”

The Scottish Government defines an accessible rural area as:

“an area with a less than 30 minute drive time to the nearest settlement with a population of 10,000 or more.”

The Scottish Government defines a remote rural area as:

“an area with a greater than 30 minute drive time to the nearest settlement with a population of 10,000 or more.”
